Guide
Guest post checklist: from brief to live link
A simple checklist you can follow for any guest post or link insertion.
Before you order
- Know which page of your site you want to support, and why
- Write down your niche and your audience in one sentence
- Decide whether you want a new article, a link in an existing one, or both
- Set a rough budget per link, and a deadline if you have one
When you receive a shortlist
- Open each site yourself and read a couple of articles
- Check authority and traffic, and note which tool each figure came from
- Confirm the price, and whether it includes the content
- Ask how the post will be labelled (sponsored or not) and what link type you will get
- Approve only the sites you are comfortable being associated with
When the draft arrives
- The article is useful on its own, not a thin advert for you
- Your link sits where a reader would want it, with natural wording
- Facts and claims are accurate and can be backed up
- It follows the publisher's style and guidelines
After it goes live
- Open the URL and confirm the article and the link are there
- Check the link goes to the right page of your site
- Note the link type (normal, nofollow or sponsored)
- Keep a record: site, date, URL, link target and price
- Look again after a few weeks to confirm it is still live
